Fatback - Is This the Future (1983)

The Fatback Band (later known as Fatback) is an American funk and disco band popular in the 1970s and 1980s, known for R&B hits like "(Do the) Spanish Hustle," "I Like Girls," "Gotta Get My Hands on Some (Money)," "Backstrokin'," and "I Found Lovin'." Their 1979 single "King Tim III (Personality Jock)" is considered the first commercially released hip hop single. Formed in New York City in 1970 by drummer Bill Curtis, the band's original lineup included Johnny King (guitar), Johnny Flippin (bass), George Williams (trumpet), Earl Shelton (sax), George Adams (flute), and Gerry Thomas (keyboards). They signed to Perception Records and had a hit with "Street Dance." Crown Heights Affair are an American R&B / funk / disco group from Brooklyn, New York City, founded in 1967. Originally known as Ben Iverson and the Nue Dey Express on Britne Records, founded by then-bassist Donnie Linton, the group was renamed for a neighborhood in Brooklyn. The line-up consisted of Phillip Thomas (vocals), William Anderson (guitar/vocals), Howard Young (keyboards), Bert Reid and James "Ajax" Baynard (trumpets), Raymond Reid (trombone), Arnold 'Muki' Wilson (bass), Julius Dilligard Jr. (trombone), and Raymond Rock (drums, percussion). Under contract to RCA they recorded their self-titled first album in 1974, featuring their first single "(You Can't Bend My) Super Rod". Personnel changes followed, along with a shift in 1975 to De-Lite Records. The record label's subsequent liaison with Polygram Records saw the group gain worldwide audiences for singles such as "Dreaming a Dream", "Every Beat of My Heart", ...

One Way is an American R&B and funk band that was popular in the late 1970s, and throughout most of the 1980s, led by singer Al Hudson. The group's most successful record was "Cutie Pie", which reached number 4 on the Billboard Soul Singles chart and number 61 on the pop chart in 1982. Detroit vocalist Al Hudson, guitarist Dave Roberson and bassist Kevin McCord (b. Kevin Duane McCord, 1954, Detroit, Michigan) founded Al Hudson and the Soul Partners in the mid 1970s. Other members included keyboardists Jack Hall and Jonathan "Corky" Meadows, drummers Theodore Dudley and Gregory Greene, Gary Andrews and guitarist Cortez Harris. They recorded several singles for Atco Records before joining ABC Records and made their debut with the LP Especially for You in 1977.
