FUNK MUSIC
Funk is a music genre that originated in the mid-1960s in the United States. It is characterized by the rhythm section playing syncopated patterns, the use of brass or saxophones on rhythmic punctuations or solos, and a focus on instruments. James Brown, considered the godfather of funk, developed the concept of "The One" which is the rhythmic support on the first beat. However, the origins of funk go back to the 1950s in New Orleans where it was performed by brass bands. Funk musicians build a collective work around the guitar, bass and drums section which played the groove, allowing for vocalists and instrumentalists to add their own flair.
